How to Use Dot-Walking with Filters
Filters are used to focus your data around a set of desired fields. Generally, filters can only be applied to fields within a single App, but with dot-walking you can add filters to your data that utilize information from other Apps.
1. Navigate to the All View of the App
There are two ways to access the All view of an App.
1. From the Navigation Menu, select the App you want to create the filtered view in and click the All (App name) button.
2. From the Apps Home Page, hover your cursor over the App you want to create the filtered view in and a list of all saved views for that App will appear. Click the All (App name) button.
2. Applying Filters Using Dot-Walking
Select the Filter button from the Action menu at the top of the All view page.
The Filter window will appear. Make sure you are in the Filter tab of the Filter window.
In the Filtered By field, you can use dot-walking to access Referenced Fields from another App. To do so, type the name of the App you want to reference, followed by a period, followed by the name of field you want to reference.
For example, if you want to create a filtered view in the Contacts App that uses the Account Name field you would type: account.account name. As a shortcut, as soon as you have typed the App name and the period, a list of all available Reference Fields will appear.
Note: There is no limit to the amount of filters you can apply using dot-walking.
How to Use Dot-Walking to Add Columns to List Views
When configuring a list view, you have complete control over the columns you want displayed. You can even include columns from fields in other Apps. This works quite similar to using dot-walking with filters.
